I fell in love with this combination the moment I saw it, I think mostly because it is soooo not me! I really had a hard time choosing what I wanted to use for my project but in the end I went simple and mostly created my own!

If you've followed my cards for a while you would know I love to colour and have a love of creating my own backgrounds and patterned paper and I took inspiration from a card on page 43 of the new Annual Catalogue to do just that.

I started out with the four ink pads open (I have used Island Indigo for Pretty Peacock and Calypso Coral in place of Terracotta Tile as I don't yet own them) and using my aqua painter I did alternate lines on my shimmery white cardstock making them slightly darker along the top of each line. Once I was happy with the lines I spritzed the cardstock with water which made them run a little and then I layed it in the sun to dry. While it was drying I cut my base and die cuts and embossed the sentiment and put all that together.

I love layering so that was what I did last, mixing ribbons and paper types and patterns. The sequins were my finishing touch.

  1. I think I might have to get experimental and give your background technique a try - I really love the soft effect it creates.

  2. Congratulations on your win and guest design spot, Jo. These colours were so not my colours either and I also enjoy creating backgrounds so particularly love your card. The way the lines have slightly bled into each other creates a lovely misty effect.
