I'm back with a very special card for this week's Just Add Ink Challenge! Jan has asked us to 'Add A Technique'!
My hubby turned 50 just over a month ago and so I wanted to make his card 'extra' special so the technique I chose to use is an Extended Concertina Card, got to love a fancy fold (which I don't do often enough)!
Being 50 of course meant a party and there are two things my man loves, Doctor Who and his favourite football team. Since he was having a party I decided to tie his card in with his Doctor Who birthday cake, made by my fab sister and her daughter.
So Doctor Who it was! The card itself was a base of Night of Navy and I cut a TARDIS design for the front of the card and used some printables to decorate it. The extended part of the card was made by using 4 sheets of cardstock cut to 15cm high and scored every 9.9cm to make 3 folds. To join them together it was simply a matter of overlapping the last and first of each piece and gluing it together. The colour stripes (along with the inside of his cake) are representing his favourite Doctor, Tom Baker and his long scarf. I cut pieces of Whisper White to different widths (all 15cm high) and then using ink pads and sponge brayers I coloured each strip with colours to match the scarf. Once coloured and dried I ran each strip through the Big Shot with the Subtle embossing folder to give it a bit of a fabric look. I used some Black Glimmer Paper to die cut the 'Happy 50th Birthday' and place it along the 'scarf'. Lastly, a piece of whisper white on the reverse of the end fold was where we wrote our message. This took me some time and a few days at my craft table but thankfully he was impressed and even took it to work the next day to show everyone!
Being so thick (about 1.5cm) when completed I made a matching 'envelope' with my Envelope Punch Board and some old DSP in Night of Navy. I banded it with some ribbon and some decoration on the front.
This has to be one of the most time-consuming cards I have made in ages but well worth the reaction. Remember to stop by the Just Add Ink blog for more technique inspiration and thanks for dropping by.
